Do the iSci faculty help you find internship placements and is it possible to work with some of the iSci professors with their research? I think that would be pretty neat.

Hey, for your year, many of the upper years can help instead of the profs. For first year it's tough to get government-funded research (in some faculties, impossible), but you can apply for faculty scholarships, OSAP-sponsored work, or volunteer positions.

Some profs in iSci have labs looking for undergrad students to help, and if you're interested in their research, feel free to talk to them to see if you would work well in their labs.

Hey, i second what prateek said, working in a lab after first year and even during first year is definitely really tough, but a very beneficial experience. For myself, it helped me learn whether research was something i actually wanted to do

Hello Adam,

Yes, iSci could provide you with different opportunities. However, it all comes down to your motivation. If you are truly passionate about a particular subject and you have good background, iSci profs or non-iSci profs will take you in.

As Prateek mentioned, government-funded research such as NSERC has different requirements. From what I know, you can apply to NSERC for earth science and biology in first year, but they do not offer NSERC for first year students in PNB (psychology neuroscience and behaviour).
Aside from government scholarships, there are other fellowships and awards that you are eligible to apply.

Hope that helped Smile

James
