Possible Electives for 2015 Empty
PostSubject: Possible Electives for 2015   Possible Electives for 2015 EmptyMon Jun 27, 2011 12:12 am

Hey all, be sure you know which electives you can take:

http://www.science.mcmaster.ca/isci/images/stories/1st_year_elective_choice_for_2011-12.pdf

PS, I am extremely jealous!!!! You guys have such a good choice of electives (traditionally in iSci first year elective selection has been rough), but they've really made it great for you, feel privileged.

Some personal ones I would recommend (other iSci students feel free to weigh in)

The Anthropology courses (especially 1Z), Geography Courses (especially 1HA3!!), the full year of French, Math 1B03 (linear algebra), Philosophy 1E03 (looks cool), Classics 1A03 (aka archaeology!!), Classics 1B03 (intro to ancient myth: something I've always wanted to take at Mac).

Linguistic people, (you know who you are), is there a glitch in the course offerings (do you actually need linguistics 1A03 as a prereq for 1AA3?).

And feel lucky 2015, as an example (in the 2013 year), we weren't able to take linear algebra in our schedule, and we could only take 1 of the two economics, 1 of the two geographies, neither of the earth sciences, couldn't take computer science, nor classics, or the philosophies. You are all sooooo lucky!

(: Feeling very privileged but more options makes it far more difficult to decide on on two!
if it says term 3 beside a course what does that mean? Are there not only two terms O_o

Victoria: I believe that means it is for the whole year. I guess this since all of the 6-unit courses seem to be listed as term 3.

Prateek: Your point about linguistics is correct (or not, I'm not sure if you're asking if the iSci sheet is offering an untakeable course or if it isn't supposed to have a prereq. It is supposed to have the prereq I believe). Thank you for pointing that out, for some reason I thought both courses were on the list of available electives. So it would appear that no one will be taking linguistics in iSci this year. xD

Oops, that linguistic course was my mistake. You are correct that you cannot take linguistics 1AA3 without 1A03. I'll take it off the website so no one gets confused. Thanks for pointing that out!

Also, term 3 does mean that it is a 6 unit course. So you will take it throughout the whole year.

Possible Electives for 2015 Empty

Ok, this is really last minute (course selection opens midnight), so I hope someone's on that can get back quickly. Smile

First year science students just got an email about a new course, HTH SCI 1PA3, that isn't listed in the course calendar or master timetable yet. It's supposedly on "concepts and areas of research excitement in biomedical sciences".

Does this fit the iSci timetable? Would the content overlap too much with what we'll be doing?

Chances are you won't be able to take it, but there's no hurt in trying and really i think only sarah robinson may know if it fits...if it was just added into the schedule

For those who are interested, the HTH SCI 1PA3 course does fit the iSci schedule and you can register for it. It will be added to the list of electives on the iSci website today.

I don't know if it will overlap with what you will be doing in first year iSci. It's a new course and I haven't been able to find a course description anywhere. Sarah Robinson is working on finding out more information on it but in the meantime you can register for the course if you are really interested. You can always change your mind later if you decide you don't want to take it after all.

Possible Electives for 2015 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Possible Electives for 2015   Possible Electives for 2015 EmptyFri Jul 15, 2011 3:12 pm

There has been some updates to some of the elective courses. These courses no longer fit with the first year iSci schedule: CMST 1A03 term 2, EnviroSci term 2, HLTH AGE 1AA2 1D/2E, Classics 1B03 1D. If you are registered in any of these courses you will have to register for another course. Sorry about all this!
