ORS and 2nd year concentration Empty
PostSubject: ORS and 2nd year concentration   ORS and 2nd year concentration EmptyTue May 29, 2012 5:54 pm

i noticed on the origins research specialization website http://origins.mcmaster.ca/education.php that you could take the specialization with isci.
i was just wondering if it would still be possible to take a concentration along with the ORS. is it possible? isci does not seem to have too many electives.

thanks!

it is possible to do a minor in origins if you wish, the only difficult I see would be avoiding class conflicts! The origins classes do seem super cool though! I found out about it at the 'What to do in Level II' fair the faculty of science hosted in about March?

You cannot do two concentrations, and being in iSci you cannot concentrate in origins. That being said you CAN choose a concentration and choose to minor in origins!

Also, and you move up in each year of iSci you get more electives! I know Arts and Science only gets one elective each term in first year and I believe it is the same for students in life sciences.

It's not so bad! Certainly keep everything in mind and when the 'what to do in level II' fair by the university and the Concentration Fair we have in iSci come around be sure to ask plenty of questions! You certainly don't have to make any definite decision for a while!

Hey,

Strictly speaking you cannot do a "concentration" in Origins Research -- however whether or not you choose a concentration in iSci, you are able to do a Minor in the field.

I've taken 3 of my electives in Origins, and I have found those to be some of my favourite classes. It is really helpful because the administrator for our iSci Program is also the administrator for the Origins Department -- so you can have any of your questions answered.

The reason one cannot do an Origins Research Specialization, is because this specialization requires you to do a Thesis in Origins, whereas iSci requires you to do your Thesis in "iSci" -- with this being said, this does not mean that you can't do your thesis eventually with a professor in the Origins Institute, and have Origins Themes present in your final thesis.
