For those of you who could not attend the iSci Society meeting today, here is a summary:
Topics discussed:
iStudy Guidelines
Upcoming Feedback Sessions
Academic Subcommittee
Social Subcommittee
Communications- New iSci Forum
"Combining Two Cultures" Conference- Feedback and Delegates
iStudy Guidelines:
Today, we talked about the need for there to be some general guidelines for iStudy by iSci for iSci. We will be using one of the whiteboards in iStudy to hold a list of guidelines suggested by the executive that all iSci students can comment on or add to. We will then collect the list from the board and use it to create a formal usage guideline for iStudy.
Upcoming Feedback Sessions:
The executive is planning to have some feedback sessions, administered by us, to gain some feedback that both iTeach and the Society would like. These are most likely to be taking place next Tuesday and Thursday. When the details are set, we will send out more information
Academic Subcommittee:
We will be forming our Academic Committee, led by Solomon. The first meeting will take place this Thursday. If you are interested in being a part of the academic committee, and have not already signed up, either email the iscisociety email with the title "Academic Subcommittee", or sign up on the iSci Forum.
Social Subcommittee:
We will be forming our Academic Committee, led by Krista. The first meeting will take place next Tuesday. If you are interested in being a part of the social committee, and have not already signed up, either email the society email with the title " Social Subcommittee", or sign up on the iSci forum.
Communications:
Today, we introduced the new iSci online Forum. The address is isci.forumotion.com. This will be the primary method of communication within the Society, and will hopefully emerge as a great resource, academically and socially, for all iSci students. I strongly urge you to take a look and make an account. In registering, please format your username as your first name, a space, and your last name (i.e. Jyssika Russell). I would also like to mention that this forum can be viewed publicly, and therefore content should be addressed appropriately.
"Combining Two Cultures" Conference:
We discussed feedback requested by Carolyn. If you would like to give your feedback, either submit it on the Forum, in the topic "Combining Two Cultures", or if you are not comfortable with the feedback being public, you may send it to the society email, or directly to any executive.
We also discussed the selection of the 5 delegates from iSci that will attend the conference. We decided that the fairest way to choose the delegates would be to pick randomly. Details on how to apply will be posted on the Forum and also sent in a subsequent email.
Thank you to all who attended. However, we were hoping for a larger turnout, and we stress that there will be very few general meetings in the future. Therefore, if you could do your best to make it to the meetings, that would be greatly appreciated. A larger audience allows us to make decisions and gain feedback from a larger and more complete section of iSci.
